No. 41 Virginia Tech looks to rebound against visiting Chanticleers

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 41st-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will host Coastal Carolina on Sunday at noon at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

The Hokies (3-2) return to Blacksburg for the first time since their season-opening doubleheader in which they claimed wins over 59th-ranked Yale and Davidson. Last weekend, the Hokies lost a close match to Penn State 4-3.

Virginia Tech is led by nationally-ranked sophomores Andreas Bjerrehus and Amerigo Contini. Contini, ranked 26th, is 3-2 on the season in No.1 singles while 60th-ranked Bjerrehus is 2-2 in No. 2 singles. Bjerrehus and Contini are also ranked 23rd in doubles and post a 3-1 mark on the season.

Tech’s 122nd-ranked Aaron Gomez, Hunter Koontz, and Joao Monteiro have also been impressive for Tech this season. Gomez enters the match with a 2-1 record. Koontz, with a 4-1 mark, has tallied the most singles wins so far for the Hokies and Monteiro is 3-1. Koontz and Monteiro are also 2-2 on the season in doubles.

The Chanticleers (3-1) lost their season-opening match to 19th-ranked Wake Forest, but have reeled off three wins in a row since. Coastal will travel to Wofford on Friday before making the trip to Blacksburg for this weekend’s contest.

The Hokies will be back on the court with a match at Boston College on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m.
