BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 33rd-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will travel to University Park, Pa. to take on Penn State in an 11 a.m. match on Sunday, February 2 at the university’s Indoor Tennis Center.

The Hokies (3-1) are coming off an impressive showing at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Norman, Okla. Despite losing to ninth-ranked Oklahoma 4-1, the Hokies toppled then 24th-ranked Tulsa 4-3 in the consolation match. Junior Hunter Koontz clinched the match for the Hokies with a come from behind win in No. 3 singles.

The Nittany Lions (2-0) are coming off wins over William & Mary and St. John’s this past weekend.

Tech’s 26th-ranked Amerigo Contini and Koontz are each 3-1 this season for the Hokies in singles action. The Hokies 60th-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus, 122nd-ranked Aaron Gomez, and Joao Monteiro are all 2-1 for Tech.

Jai Corbett and Florian Nicoud are the only two Hokies who are still undefeated in singles this dual season. Corbett and Nicoud are both 2-0.

In doubles, Virginia Tech has been led by the 23rd-ranked pair of Bjerrehus and Contini and the duo of Corbett and Nicoud who are both 2-1 on the year. The doubles team of Koontz and Monteiro are 1-2.

Penn State has been paced by Russell Bader, Matt Barry and Roman Trkulja this season, as they are all 2-0 in dual singles matches.

Following Sunday’s match, the Hokies will return home to host Coastal Carolina on Sunday, February 9 at noon.
