Wilson advances to ITA Regionals main draw
Hokies will continue day two of competition on Friday

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Freshman Nic Wilson advanced through the qualifying draw on Thursday during the opening day of the Men’s Tennis USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.

Wilson had a bye in the opening round and moved in to the second round to face Sam Rundle of Temple. The Tech player picked up the win over Rundle in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-3. Wilson moves in to Friday’s main draw first round to face Morgan State’s Duk Young Park.

Also taking to the court for the Hokies on Friday are Florian Nicoud, Rafael Ribas and Aaron Gomez. Nicoud will play Liberty’s Egon Samaai in the first round while Ribas will square off against Danny Khanin of Georgetown. Gomez will take to the court against Duquesne’s Rich Robbie.

Wilson and Ribas will also pair up tomorrow in the first round of doubles, facing JMU’s Sebastian Salinas and Brett Moorhead. Jai Corbett and Nicoud are pairing up for the first round to play Jose Sierra and Dan Barrus of Saint Joseph’s.

Competition will get started on Friday at 10 a.m. with doubles at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Matches were originally slated to begin at 9 a.m. but all start times have been pushed back an hour due to weather in Blacksburg.
