Tech concludes play at ITA All-American
Hokies advance to doubles quarterfinals before falling

TULSA, Okla. – Sophomores Amerigo Contini and Andreas Bjerrehus concluded competition on Friday at the 2013 ITA All-American in Tulsa, Okla.

In singles, Tech’s 43rd-ranked Contini fell to Vanderbilt’s 35th-ranked Gonzales Austin in a close three-set battle. Gonzales held off Contini in the first set, winning 7-5, but Contini came back for a 6-3 win in the second set. The Vandy player secured the match with a 6-4 win in the final set.

The Hokies’ 17th-ranked doubles tandem of Contini and Bjerrehus downed the 25th-ranked Duke pair of Raphael Hemmeler and Bruno Semenzato in the first match of the day with a score of 8-3 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Contini and Bjerrehus fell in the quarterfinal round as the 50th-ranked pair Dane Webb and Andrew Harris of Oklahoma secured an 8-2 victory.

Several Hokies are currently in action at the UVA Fall Classic this weekend in Charlottesville, Va. Next on the slate is Tech hosting the ITA Atlantic Regional, Oct. 17-22 at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.
