Tech advances in main draw at ITA All-American
Contini downs sixth-ranked Giron in singles

TULSA, Okla. – Sophomore Amerigo Contini defeated a pair of ranked players, including No. 6 Marcos Giron to advance in the singles main draw on Thursday at the ITA All-American in Tulsa, Okla.

The 43rd-ranked Contini opened the day with a win over Georgia’s 32nd-ranked

Nathan Pasha in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-3. In the second round, Contini picked up a big win over UCLA’s top-player, defeating sixth-ranked Giron with scores of 6-4, 6-2.

Contini will face No. 35 Gonzales Austin of Vanderbilt in the next round.

Contini paired up with Andreas Bjerrehus to advance in doubles. The 17th-ranked Tech duo advanced on a walkover against Texas’ Lloyd Glasspool and Soren Hess-Olsen.

The Hokie pair is slated to play Duke's No. 25 Raphael Hemmler and Bruno Semenzato on Friday.

Competition will continue on Friday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
