TULSA, Okla. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wrapped up day four and the final day of qualifiers on Wednesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

Tech’s 66th-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus faltered in the final round of the qualifying singles to 87th-ranked Joran Vliegen of ECU. The Pirates’ player picked up the 6-3, 6-2 win to advance to the main draw.

In the qualifying doubles, Tech’s Hunter Koontz and Joao Monteiro teamed up against Florida’s 57th-ranked pair of Elliott Orkin and Gordon Watson. The Tech tandem battled against the Gator pair, before falling in the tie-breaker, 8-7(1).

The Hokies will be back on the court on Thursday in the main draw of singles and doubles. Tech’s 43rd-ranked Amerigo Contini will be in action for the first time at the tournament as he faces Georgia’s 32nd-ranked Nathan Pasha in the opening round of singles.

Contini will pair up with Bjerrehus in the doubles event. The Hokie pair is ranked 17th in the ITA standings and are slated to play Texas’ Lloyd Glasspool and Soren Hess-Olsen in the first round. The Longhorn pair is unranked in doubles, but Hess-Olsen is tabbed 10th in singles while Glasspool is 101st.

Competition will continue Thursday morning at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
