Tech continues to advance at ITA All-American
Hokies move on in singles and doubles

TULSA, Okla. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team continued success at the ITA All-American Championships, advancing in both singles and doubles on Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

Tech’s 66th-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus defeated UVa’s Jordan Daigle in straight sets during the second round of the qualifying singles with scores of 6-4, 6-4. Bjerrehus advances to face East Carolina’s 87th-ranked Joran Vliegen on Wednesday.

Joao Monteiro battled to a win in the consolation bracket, taking Denver’s Alex Gasson to three sets. Monteiro won the first set 6-2, but Gasson came back in the second for a 6-4 win. The Tech player rallied for the third set to win, 6-2.

In doubles, Monteiro paired up with Hunter Koontz for a win. After receiving a bye in the first round, the Hokies’ duo faced Ben Mullins and Alen Salibasic of Drake in the second round. Monteiro and Koontz secured the win with an 8-5 score.

The tournament continues on Wednesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
