TULSA, Okla. – Sophomore Andreas Bjerrehus picked up a win for the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team on Monday at the 2013 ITA Men’s Tennis All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Bjerrehus downed Florida’s Mike Alford in straight set scores of 6-3, 7-5. The Tech player will be back on the court on Tuesday to face the winner between Miami’s Diego Soto and Virginia’s Jordan Daigle.
Junior Hunter Koontz battled in his qualifying singles round, facing off against 52nd-ranked Florent Diep. Koontz claimed the first set, 6-4. Diep rallied back to hold off the Tech player in the second set, edging Koontz 7-6(5). The Gator secured the match with a 6-4 win in the third set.
Koontz and Joao Monteiro will also be on the court for the Hokies on Tuesday in the qualifying doubles draw. The pair earned a bye in the opening round and is slated to match up against Ben Mullins and Alen Salibasic of Drake.
Competition will resume on Tuesday morning in Tulsa, Okla.
