TULSA, Okla. – Virginia Tech men’s tennis sophomore Joao Monteiro split results on Sunday at the 2013 ITA Men’s Tennis All-American at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Monteiro defeated Notre Dame’s Eric Schnurrenberger in the second round of the prequalifying draw with straight set scores of 6-2, 6-3.
In the third round, Monteiro faced off against Ohio State’s Constantin Christ, who was seeded number two in the draw. Christ secured the win against Monteiro, 6-3, 6-4.
The qualifying draw begins on Monday, Sept. 30 with Hunter Koontz and Andreas Bjerrehus on the court for the Hokies.
Tech’s 66th-ranked Bjerrehus is seeded 16th in the draw and will face Florida’s Mike Alford in the opening round. Koontz will also play a Gator as he faces 52nd-ranked and fifth-seeded Florent Diep in the first round.
