BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech will host an ITA Summer Circuit event, July 6-8 at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the Tech campus.
Current Hokies competing are Hunter Koontz and Nicholas Wilson on the men’s side. Koontz had a solid season for Tech as a sophomore this past year, recording a 25-14 overall record in singles and a 21-15 mark in doubles. Wilson redshirted this past year as a freshman.
Kelly Williford, Raluca Mita, Frances Peyton, Laura Ramthun, Carol Kahoun and newcomer Rebecca Harris will represent the Tech women’s team. Williford was 12-12 in duals for the Hokies this past season and went 13-9 in doubles at the No. 1. Mita notched a 16-7 record in singles and was 8-9 in doubles while Kahoun finished with an 11-4 mark in duals. Peyton and Ramthun competed last fall in tournament play for the Hokies while Harris will join the team for the 2013-14 season.
The tournament is one of four being hosted this summer in the Mid-Atlantic region. There are nine other regions hosting four events each. The tournaments ultimately lead up to the USTA/ITA National Summer Championships in Bloomington, Ind. in August.
