GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech's men's tennis team placed three on the All-ACC Academic Team with Hunter Koontz, Amerigo Contini and Andreas Bjerrehus all earning honors, as announced Tuesday by Commissioner John Swofford.
In addition to in the classroom, Koontz, Contini and Bjerrehus also saw a lot of success on the court this season. This marks the first All-ACC Academic team honor for all three.
Koontz finished the season ranked 19th in the Atlantic Region in singles and was ranked ninth in doubles with Bjerrehus. The sophomore business major posted a 25-14 overall record in singles and finished 21-15 in doubles.
Contini was named the ACC Freshman of the Year, the Atlantic Region Player to Watch and earned a bid to the NCAA Singles National Championship. The freshman tallied a 28-12 overall record, finishing the season ranked 67th nationally and sixth in the Atlantic region. In addition, recorded a 25-11 overall record in doubles.
Bjerrehus, a management major, finished the season ranked 94th nationally and 11th in the Atlantic region after recording an overall singles mark of 30-12. The freshman also had a 24-13 overall record in doubles and went 19-9 with Contini as the pair was ranked as high as eighth during the season.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during their academic career.
