Contini Named ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

GREENSBORO – Virginia Tech freshman Amerigo Contini has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.

Contini’s earned his first career Player of the Week honor after helping the Hokies to a 2-0 record in the final weekend of regular season league play, including road wins over No. 55 Miami (7-0) and No. 30 Florida State (4-3).

The rookie from Parma, Italy posted straight set wins over his two opponents at the No. 1 singles slot. Contini topped Miami’s Gabriel Flores, 6-4, 6-2, and defeated No. 95 Dominic Controne of Florida State, 6-2, 6-1. Contini finished the regular season with a 7-3 ACC record.

The ACC Men’s Tennis Championship gets under way Thursday, April 25 at the Cary (N.C.) Tennis Park. Virginia Tech will face Boston College in the opening round at 3 p.m. on Thursday. Complete championship ticket packages as well as single day tickets are available at the Cary Tennis Park.
