BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 52nd-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will conclude its home schedule this weekend, hosting Georgia Tech on Friday, April 12 at 2:30 p.m. Tech will host 25th-ranked Clemson on Sunday, April 14 at 1 p.m. and will honor Lucas Oliveira and Trpimir Kujundzic as part of Senior Day.

The Hokies (11-7, 3-3 ACC) are coming off a split last weekend. Tech defeated No. 36 NC State, 4-3 before falling to No. 25 Wake Forest, 5-2. In the win over the Wolfpack, Tech won the doubles point and then claimed wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles to tie the match at 3-3. Freshman Joao Monteiro secured the win in the No. 6, defeating Beck Bond 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.

Tech’s freshmen duo of Amerigo Contini and Andreas Bjerrehus enter this weekend’s matches ranked 14th in the latest ITA doubles standings. The pair is 13-3 in the No. 1 doubles in duals and 18-7 overall this season. Contini also holds a singles ranking of 73rd with a 12-4 record in duals and 24-8 overall. Bjerrehus is 94th in the singles standings and has a 12-5 record in the spring and is 26-9 overall this season.

Georgia Tech (8-12, 1-6 ACC) fell to Duke, 5-2 last weekend. The Yellow Jackets scored points with a win in the No. 1 and No. 3 singles matches.

Leading Georgia Tech this season is Juan Spir who is 68th in the ITA rankings. Spir has tallied a 10-8 record this season, including 6-1 in the No. 2. Nathan Rakitt is 12-5 in duals with an 8-4 mark in the No. 4. Spir has also teamed up with Vikram Hundal in doubles and the duo holds a 7th place ranking in the ITA with a 7-2 record in the No. 1.

Clemson (15-4, 4-2 ACC) defeated North Carolina 6-1 the last time out. After dropping the doubles point to the Tar Heels, Clemson came back to win all six singles matches.

The Tigers are led by Yannick Maden who is currently ranked 24th in the ITA, holding a 16-2 record this spring season with all matches being played in the No. 1. Hunter Harrington is 13-4, including a 12-4 record in the No. 2. Yannick Maden has also teamed up with Dominique Maden in doubles this season for an 8-2 record in the No. 1 and a ranking of 22nd in the ITA.

Virginia Tech will wrap up the regular season next weekend at Miami on Friday, April 19. The Hokies will remain in Florida to face Florida State on Sunday, April 21.
