BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 59th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will open the ACC schedule on Sunday March 17, hosting Boston College in a noon match at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Tech (8-3) is coming off a 5-0 win over Old Dominion. The Hokies won two of the three doubles matches and the No. 1-4 singles in the win over the Monarchs. Tech’s 91st-ranked Andreas Bjerrehus had the match-clinching win with a 6-2, 7-5 decision in the No. 2.

Bjerrehus has compiled a 9-1 singles record this spring. Fellow freshman Amerigo Contini has posted a mark of 8-1 and is ranked 73rd in the ITA. The duo is also 21st in the doubles standings and has a record of 14-4 overall and 9-0 in dual play.

Lucas Oliveira has also had a strong spring early for the Hokies with a mark of 8-2 while Hunter Koontz is 6-4 in the spring and 18-8 overall this season.

The Eagles (5-5) fell to UC Santa Barbara, 5-2, in their last outing. BC faltered in the doubles point, winning in the No. 2 match with Matt Wagner and Billy Grokenberger. The Eagles scored points as Philip Nelson picked up a win in the No. 2 singles and Grokenberger claimed a win on court five.

Grokenberger is 6-1 in duals this season while Wagner has a singles mark of 7-3. Both players have seen time in the No. 4, 5 and six singles. Nelson is 3-5 in the No. 1 and 1-0 in the No. 2 while Jonathan Raude is 3-3 in the No. 2.

Tech will remain at home next weekend to host North Carolina and Duke.
