No. 49 Tech to host No. 38 Louisville
Hokies will face Cardinals at 1 p.m. in Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 49th-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set to host No. 38 Louisville in a rivalry match-up on Sunday, Feb. 23. Match time is slated for 1 p.m. at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Virginia Tech (6-2) s coming off a 5-2 win against No. 48 Michigan State. The Hokies swept the doubles matches against the Spartans and claimed four wins in singles as Amerigo Contini, Andreas Bjerrehus, Hunter Koontz and Trpimir Kujundzic helped secure the win for Tech.

Contini and Bjerrehus remained undefeated in the No. 1 doubles at 6-0 and are ranked 11th in the most recent ITA standings. Bjerrehus is 44th in singles and holds a 6-1 record this dual season in the No. 1 and No. 2. Contini, ranked 65th in singles, is 6-0 this spring, playing in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Lucas Oliveira holds a 5-2 mark this spring while Aaron Gomez is 4-1.

The Cardinals (7-6) fell to No. 57 Clemson, 4-0 the last time out. Louisville’s Sebastian Stiefelmeyer is ranked 115th in the latest ITA singles standings and holds a 4-6 record this spring in the No. 1. Van Damrongsri is 5-1 in singles this season while Chris Simich holds a mark of 7-4. Alex Gornet and Albert Wagner are 5-2 and Luis Elizondo is 5-4.

The duo of Wagner and Gornet hold a ranking of 31st in doubles with a record of 6-2 in the No. 1.

Virginia Tech will return to the court following Sunday’s match on Tuesday, March 5 when James Madison makes the trip to Blacksburg for a 2 p.m. match.
