CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Tech freshmen men’s tennis players Amerigo Contini and Andreas Bjerrehus claimed the doubles title on Tuesday at the ITA Atlantic Regionals in Charlottesville, Va.
Bjerrehus and Contini defeated host team UVa’s 47th-ranked pair of Justin Shane and Julien Uriguen. The Hokies shutout the ‘Hoos in the opening set, 6-0. Shane and Uriguen came back and edged Bjerrehus and Contini in the second set 7-6(4). Tech rallied for a 6-2 win in the third to clinch the match.
With the win, Bjerrehus and Contini now advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships, Nov. 8-11 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
