CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Tech freshmen men’s tennis players Andreas Bjerrehus and Amerigo Contini advance in both singles and doubles on Sunday at the ITA Atlantic Regionals in Charlottesville, Va.
Bjerrehus defeated Siim Tuus of Liberty in the singles round of 16 with straight set scores of 6-2, 6-4. He advances to play William & Mary’s Ben Guthrie in Monday’s quarterfinals.
Contini also secured a win in the round of 16, defeating host-team UVa’s Ryan Shane, 6-3, 6-0. The Hokies’ player moves on to face VCU’s Alexis Huegas in the quarterfinals.
The freshman duo also teamed up for a pair of wins in doubles. Bjerrehus and Contini downed Alex Van Gils and Ulrik Thomsen of George Washington, 8-6 in the round of 16. In the quarterfinal round, the pair had an 8-6 decision against VCU’s Alexis Huegas and Michal Voscek.
Bjerrehus and Contini advance to Monday’s semifinals and will square off against UVa’s Alex Domijan and Harrison Richmond.
The tournament continues Monday with the quarterfinals and semifinals of singles and the semifinals of doubles. Competition is slated to begin at 10 a.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va.
