BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set to open play on Friday, Oct. 19 at the ITA Atlantic Regionals in Charlottesville, Va. The first round main draws of singles and doubles will begin on Friday and the tournament will continue over the weekend with the finals on Monday, Oct. 22.
In addition to Virginia Tech and host team Virginia, athletes from St. Joseph’s, George Mason, UMBC, Norfolk State, Penn State, Temple, Morgan State, Longwood, Villanova, James Madison, George Washington, Old Dominion, VCU, William & Mary, Georgetown, Liberty, Richmond, Bucknell and Delaware will compete in the annual event.
Lucas Oliveira, Marko Lovrinovic, Aaron Gomez, Andreas Bjerrehus, Amerigo Contini, Mauricio Antun, Hunter Koontz and Trpimir Kujundzic will represent the Hokies.
Tech’s Oliveira, Bjerrehus, Contini, Antun and Koontz all received opening round byes. Lovrinovic will face Georgetown’s Dan Khanin in the first round while Gomez squares off against Richmond’s Paul Nahon. Kujundzic is set to play Alex Van Gils of GWU
In doubles, Gomez and Oliveira will pair up against Liberty’s Siim Tuus and Jorge Azuero. Bjerrehus and Contini will team up to face George Mason’s Danny Naja and Aaron Capitel. The Hokies’ Koontz and Kujundzic will also face a Mason tandem, Jordan Dyke and Tanner Baine. Rounding out doubles for Tech is the duo of Antun and Lovrinovic facing UMBC’s Daniel Gray and Gaulthier Berret.
Matches will be played in Charlottesville, Va. at the Snyder Tennis Center.
