CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team advanced in singles and doubles on Saturday during the second day of the UVa Fall Classic in Charlottesville, Va.
Hunter Koontz advanced in the black singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win against Liberty’s Egon Samaii. Koontz moves on to play in the consolation finals on Sunday against Binghamton’s Alexander Maisin.
In the white singles Marko Lovrinovic defeated Scott Huang of William & Mary in straight sets with scores of 7-6(3), 6-3. He advances to the fifth place match, squaring off against JMU’s Greg Vladimirsky.
Koontz paired up with freshman Aaron Gomez in the blue doubles. The Tech duo defeated Richmond’s Aaron Wicker and Jesse Feder, 8-4 in the semifinal round. In the finals, Koontz and Gomez fell to UVa’s Justin Shane and Ian Uriguen, 8-4.
The Hokies will wrap up the UVa Fall Classic on Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Complex in Charlottesville, Va. Competition is set to begin at 9 a.m. with the final round of singles.
