CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team opened up tournament play at the UVa Fall Classic on Friday in Charlottesville, Va.
In white singles Marko Lovrinovic advanced out of the first round by defeating College of Charleston’s Charlie Ghriskey. Lovrinovic fell 6-1 in the opening set, but came back to take the next two sets with scores of 6-3, 6-4. In the second round, Lovrinovic fell to Michal Voscek of VCU, 6-4, 6-1.
Trpimir Kujundzic claimed a win in the opening round of the red singles, defeating Josh Record of CofC in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Kujundzic faced William & Mary’s John Banks in the second round. The two battled to three sets with Banks taking the opening set 6-3, Kujundzic came back for a 6-2 win in the second set, but Banks held on for a 6-4 win in the third to take the match.
In doubles, Hunter Koontz paired up with Aaron Gomez in the blue draw. The pair defeated Liberty’s duo of Dillon Segur and Guilleme Secanel, 8-4.
Competition will continue on Saturday with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. Matches are set to begin at 9 a.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va.
