TULSA, Okla. - Freshman Andreas Bjerrehus recorded a singles win for the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team on Monday afternoon at the 2012 ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

Bjerrehus picked up his third win this fall over nationally ranked competition as he squared off against No. 101 Florent Diep of Florida. Bjerrehus secured the 6-4 win in the opening set, before falling 7-6 in the second set. The Hokie newcomer responded to win the match with a 6-2 decision in the final set.

He advances to the next round to face Duke’s 76th-rank Raphael Hemmeler.

Tech’s Amerigo Contini fell in the first round of the qualifying draws after battling Georgia’s 123rd-ranked Nathan Pasha to three sets. Pasha won the first set 6-3, but Contini rallied to take the second set 7-6(4). In the final set the two went back and forth, but Pasha won in the tiebreaker with a tally of 7-6(3).

Bjerrehus will compete in the next round of singles on Tuesday. The two Hokies will team up in the second round of qualifying doubles after receiving a first round bye. The doubles matches will also begin on Tuesday.
