TULSA, Okla. – Freshmen Amerigo Contini and Andreas Bjerrehus advanced for the Virginia Tech men's tennis team into the qualifying draw at the 2012 ITA All-American Championships on Sunday afternoon in Tulsa, Okla.
Contini defeated Xavier’s Jimmy Roebker in straight sets with scores of 6-1, 6-1. He followed that up with a win over TCU’s Rodolfo Bustamante, 6-3, 6-3 to move into the qualifying draw.
Bjerrehus downed Tam Trinh of LSU in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. In the next round, Bjerrehus battled North Florida’s Norbert Nemcsek to three sets. After picking up the 7-5 win in the opening set, Bjerrehus fell 6-3 in the second. In the final set he rallied for the 6-4 win to take the match.
Contini and Bjerrehus will also compete in the qualifying doubles. The qualifying rounds will begin on Monday, Oct. 1 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
