Tech advances at ITA All-American Championships
All three Hokies advance in the prequalifying rounds

Prequalifying Draws

TULSA, Okla. – Three members of the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team advanced during the opening day of the prequalifying rounds on Saturday at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oka.

Freshman Amerigo Contini defeated Martin Ayala of Texas San Antonio with scores of 6-2, 6-1 in the opening round. In the second round Contini secured a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Michigan State’s Gijs Linders.

Mauricio Antun had a first round bye, but in the second round the sophomore battled Marquette’s Logon Collins to three sets. Antun secured the first set, 6-4, but the Marquette player came back for a 6-4 win in the second set. Antun secured the match with a 6-4 win in the third set.

Freshman Andreas Bjerrehus also had a bye in the opening round before playing a three set match in the second round, squaring off against Mississippi State’s Zach White. After winning the opening set, 6-2, Bjerrehus was edged in the second set, 7-6(5). The Tech player rallied in the final set to secure the match 7-5.

The Hokies will be back on the court in the next round on Sunday, Sept. 30 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
