CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wrapped up the second day of competition at the Baylor HEB Intercollegiate and the UVA Ranked+1 on Saturday evening.

Freshman Amerigo Contini advanced to the finals of the consolation bracket in the blue draw at the UVA event. He picked up a win over Memphis’ David O’Hare in a tough three set match. After winning the opening set 6-4, Contini was edged in the second set 7-6. He came back to take the third set 6-1.

In the semifinals, Contini again battled to three sets, this time against 74th-ranked Nick Sayer of Radford. Contini took the opening set, 6-4 before falling 6-1 in the second. In the third set, Contini claimed the win, 6-1.

Contini paired up with Lucas Oliveira in the consolations finals of the red doubles draw. The pair went back and forth with Middle Tennessee’s Ben Davis and Christopher Lang before the Blue Raiders’ duo outlasted the Hokies, 9-8(1).

Tech’s Trpimir Kujundzic defeated Tennessee’s Brandon Fickey 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16 on Saturday at the Baylor HEB Intercollegiate. In the quarterfinals, Kujundzic fell to host team Baylor’s 7th-ranked Mate Zsiga, 6-1, 6-2.

Freshman Andreas Bjerrehus fell to Alejandro Espejo of Tulsa during the round of 16 in a tough three set match. Espejo picked up the 6-4 win in the opening set, but Bjerrehus came back for a 6-2 win in the second. The Tulsa player secured the match in the third set, 6-2.

Tech concluded competition at the Baylor HEB Intercollegiate and will finish the UVA Ranked+1 on Sunday afternoon.
