CARY, N.C. – Sophomore Hunter Koontz secured a win for the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team on Sunday afternoon during the final day of the Duke Fab Four Invitational in Cary, N.C.
Koontz defeated Kentucky’s Juan Pablo Murra in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-4 in the third place match of the blue draw consolation bracket.
In the finals of the black singles draw consolation bracket, Mauricio Antun fell in three sets to North Carolina’s William Parker. Antun took the opening frame 6-4, but the Tar Heels’ player came back to win the second set 7-5. The two battled in the final set, but Parker held on for the 1-0(11) win.
The Hokies will return to the court Sept. 21-23 as the team splits time between the HEB Baylor Intercollegiate in Waco, Texas and the UVa Ranked Plus One in Charlottesville, Va.
