CARY, N.C. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team concluded the second day of action at the Duke Fab Four Invitational on Saturday in Cary, N.C.

The Hokies’ Mauricio Antun secured a pair of singles wins on Saturday. He defeated William & Mary’s Ben Guthrie in the black draw consolation quarterfinals in three sets. The Tribe player took the opening set 6-3, but Antun rallied to take the next two with scores of 6-4, 6-1.

In the semifinals of the black draw consolation, Antun downed North Carolina’s Brett Clark in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. With the win, Antun moves into Sunday’s consolation finals to face William Parker of UNC.

Tech’s Hunter Koontz claimed a win in the quarterfinals of the blue draw consolation defeating North Carolina’s Taylor Meyer in a tough three set match. Koontz claimed the first set 6-3, but Meyer came back to take the second 6-3. Koontz secured the match with a 6-3 win in the third set. Koontz fell in the semifinals to Radford’s Stijn Meulemans, 7-5, 6-2.

In doubles Koontz teamed up with Marko Lovrinovic in the black doubles draw. The Tech duo faced No. 40 Alexis Huegas and Max Wennekowski of VCU in the third place match. The Rams tandem held on for an 8-6 win.

Antun paired up with Aaron Gomez in the consolation finals of the blue doubles draw. The duo fell to 33rd-ranked Daniil Proskura and Carlos Taborga of Alabama, 8-4.

The Hokies will wrap up the Duke Fab Four Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 16. The final matches are set to begin at 9 a.m.
