BLACKSBURG, Va. – Members of the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will travel to Cary, N.C. for Duke’s annual Fab Four Invitational, Sept. 14-16. Hunter Koontz, Mauricio Antun, Marko Lovrinovic and Aaron Gomez will represent the Hokies this weekend.
The tournament will begin Friday morning at 10 a.m. with the first and second rounds of doubles matches. There will be one round of singles matches played in the afternoon. On Saturday, the final round of doubles will be played in the morning followed by the second and third rounds of singles that afternoon. Sunday will feature the singles flight title matches.
In addition to Tech and the host team, the tournament features athletes from William & Mary, North Carolina, N.C. State, South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, Elon, Radford, Louisville and VCU.
Tech’s Koontz is coming off a singles flight title at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships last weekend. Antun also claimed a flight title, winning in doubles with freshman Amerigo Contini.
Koontz and Gomez will both compete in the Blue Flight at the Fab Four event. In the first round Koontz will face Louisville’s Michael Lippens while Gomez squares off against 43rd-ranked Jamie Whiteford of William & Mary.
In the Black Flight, Antun will play Elon’s Brian Kowalski in the first round and Lovrinovic will face No. 74 Nick Sayer of Radford in the opening round of the White Flight.
On the doubles side, Koontz will team-up with Lovrinovic in the Black Flight as the duo faces Kentucky’s Juan Pablo Murra and Ryuji Hirooka. Antun and Gomez will pair up for a first round match against South Carolina’s Thiago Pinheiro and Kyle Koch.
