ATHENS, Ga. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team secured flight titles on Monday at the 45th Annual Southern Intercollegiate Tennis Championship in Athens, Ga. Hunter Koontz claimed the singles title while Mauricio Antun and Amerigo Contini teamed up for a doubles title.
Koontz defeated The Citadel’s David Orces in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-1 to win the Division II singles flight.
In the doubles semifinals the Hokie duo of Antun and Contini advanced as ETSU’s team withdrew. The pair faced Presbyterian’s Grayson Mills and Rafael Berghaus in the finals after the Blue Hose tandem also advanced on a withdrawal. Antun and Contini downed Mills and Berghaus, 9-7 to win the Division II doubles flight.
The Hokies will be back on the court Sept. 14-16 at the Fab Four event in Cary, N.C.
