Somen eliminated at NCAA Championships
Tech senior concludes outstanding season and career

ATHENS, Ga. – Virginia Tech senior Luka Somen was eliminated on Thursday afternoon in the Round of 32 at the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Singles Championships, being held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

Somen, ranked 47th in the ITA, fell to 11th-ranked Wil Spencer of host team No. 3 Georgia. Spencer took the opening set 6-4 and held on in the second set 7-5 to secure the match.

This season Somen earned his third consecutive appearance on the All-ACC team and his second straight at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. He was named the ITA’s Atlantic Region Senior of the Year for his solid performance and leadership on the court.

The Hokies’ No. 1 singles player concludes the season with a 30-11 overall record, including 16-7 in duals. Somen ends his career, having won over 68 percent of his singles matches with a record of 102-49.
