GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech senior Luka Somen has been selected for the third consecutive year to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis team, as announced on Thursday by Commissioner John Swofford.
Somen is ranked 44th nationally in singles and led the team in victories this season with a 29-10 overall record, including 15-6 in the No. 1 singles for the Hokies. In addition, Somen was 10-8 this season against ranked opponents. He also is ranked with teammate Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci in doubles at 42nd after the pair tallied a 22-14 overall record this season. Somen earned ACC Player of the Week honors this season after picking up three consecutive wins against higher ranked opponents.
This marks Somen’s third appearance on the All-ACC team after he won ACC Freshman of the Year during his rookie season. Tech is currently 45th in the latest ITA poll after posting an 11-11 record overall and a 7-4 mark in the ACC this season.
In addition to Somen, three-time All-ACC selections on this year’s team include Boston College’s Akash Muppidi, Duke’s Henrique Cunha, Georgia Tech’s Kevin King, North Carolina’s Jose Hernandez, NC State’s Jaime Pulgar and Virginia’s Jarmere Jenkins.
