Hokies to face No. 32 Florida State at ACC Championship
Men's tennis opens tournament on Friday against Seminoles

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The 41st-ranked Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will open the ACC Championship on Friday, April 20 against No. 32 Florida State. Match time is slated for noon at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C.

Tech earned the fourth seed in the championship and had a bye through Thursday’s opening round while seventh-seeded FSU defeated Miami, 4-0, on the first day.

The Hokies (11-10, 7-4 ACC) and Florida State (17-8, 7-4 ACC) met in the final match of the regular season. Tech claimed the 4-3 win in a tough battle between the two teams.

Tech clinched the doubles point to take the early 1-0 lead. In singles, 56th-ranked Luka Somen clinched the win for the Hokies in the No. 1. The Hokies also had wins from Patrick Daciek in the No. 3 and Mauricio Antun in the No. 5.

Somen and teammate Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci are ranked 43rd in the latest ITA standings. The pair have a 22-13 record on the season. Somen adds a 28-10 mark in singles while Daciek is 11-7 in the No. 3 during the spring.

Florida State’s doubles team of Blake Davis and Jordan Kelly-Houston are ranked 60th in the ITA. Andres Bucaro holds an 18-2 record this season in singles while Davis is 14-10. Kelly-Houston is 10-12 in the No. 1.

The winner of Friday’s quarterfinal will advance to Saturday’s semifinals to face the winner of the quarterfinal match between ninth seeded Maryland and top seeded Virginia.
