GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech senior Luka Somen has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after three singles wins over higher nationally-ranked opponents, including the nation’s No. 11 player, on the No. 1 court.
The 119th-ranked Somen started the week with a win against VCU’s 74th-ranked Alexis Heugas, 7-5, 5-7, 7-6(5). Over the weekend, Somen had wins against two ACC opponents, defeating 11th-ranked Kevin King of Georgia Tech in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-2. The Karlovac, Croatia, native also had a win against Clemson’s 66th-ranked Yannick Maden, 6-2, 6-3 to help the Hokies to a 4-3 win against the Tigers.
Somen and the Hokies will wrap up the regular season this weekend, hosting Miami and Florida State.
