Hokies close out regular season road schedule
Men's Tennis will travel to Georgia Tech and Clemson

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 51 Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will wrap up its regular season road schedule this weekend, traveling to No. 70 Georgia Tech on Friday, April 6 and No. 66 Clemson on Saturday, April 7. Tech will face the Yellow Jackets at the Bill Moore Tennis Center beginning at 2 p.m. and the Tigers in a 3 p.m. match at Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.

The Hokies (8-9, 4-3 ACC) dropped a close 4-3 match to in-state foe VCU the last time out. Tech picked up singles wins from seniors Luka Somen, Patrick Daciek and Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci.

Somen holds a 24-10 overall record this season, including 10-6 in the No. 1 duals and is currently 119th in the latest ITA standings. Junior Lucas Oliveira is ranked No. 123 and has posted a 14-16 record this season. Somen is also ranked in doubles with partner Tocci at 46th. The duo has a 19-12 overall record this season.

Junior Trpimir Kujundzic is 22-14, including 9-7 mark in duals while Tocci is 13-12 and 9-7 in duals. Daciek is 7-7 in the No. 3 singles.

Georgia Tech (8-9, 3-4 ACC) fell 6-1 to Duke in the team’s last match. The Yellow Jackets’ Juan Spir picked up the point in the No. 2 singles to prevent the shutout.

GT’s Kevin King is ranked No. 11 in the ITA and holds a 27-7 overall record this season, including 13-4 in the No. 1. Spir is 14-10 overall and 11-6 in duals. King and Spir are ranked in doubles at No. 7 with a 14-2 record in the No. 1.

The Tigers (8-10, 4-3 ACC) dropped a 6-1 decision to North Carolina the last time out. Clemson picked up a point in the No. 3 singles as Ayrton Wibowo secured the win.

Clemson’s Yannick Maden is 23-8 overall and holds a 12-5 record in the No. 1 singles this season. He is ranked No. 66 in the ITA in singles and No. 73 in doubles with teammate Zachary Rigsby. Dominique Maden is 9-7 in duals while Gerardo Meza is adding an 8-8 mark this season.

Tech will wrap up the regular season at home next weekend, hosting Miami and Florida State at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
