BLACKBURG, Va. – The No. 63 Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will return home after a four match road swing to host a pair of ACC matches. Tech will face No. 33 NC State on Friday, March 30 at 2:30 p.m. before squaring off against Wake Forest on Sunday, April 1 at 3 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Tech (6-8, 2-3 ACC) fell to No. 6 Duke the last time out and is looking to bounce back against the Wolfpack and Demon Deacons this weekend. The Hokies have two players ranked in singles and a doubles team in the latest ITA standings. Luka Somen is No. 119 while Lucas Oliveira is No. 123. Somen along with teammate Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci are No. 46 in doubles.
Somen holds a 21-10 record on the season and is 7-6 in duals at the No. 1. Trpimir Kujundzic is 20-13 and 7-6 in duals. Mauricio Antun is 16-14 overall and 6-7 in duals along with Patrick Daciek and Tocci both at 6-7.
NC State (15-5, 1-3 ACC) was edged, 4-3 by No. 31 Florida State the last time out. Leading the Wolfpack is No. 35 Jaime Pulgar who is 15-2 in singles matches this season. Robbie Mudge adds a 15-3 record with time primarily in the No. 3 while Austin Powell is 13-2 in duals, including a 7-1 mark at the No. 4.
The Demon Deacons (9-10, 0-4 ACC) fell to Miami in the team’s last match. Amogh Prabhakar is 14-4 in duals for Wake this season, playing in the No. 3 singles. David Hopkins holds a 12-7 mark, seeing time in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches while Danny Kreyman and Adam Lee are both 10-9.
Following the weekend matches, Tech will host a midweek contest against VCU on Tuesday, April 3 at 1 p.m.
