Tech falls to No. 6 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – The No. 68 Virginia Tech men’s tennis team fell, 7-0, to the 6th-ranked Duke Blue Devils on Sunday afternoon, at Ambler Tennis Stadium in Durham, N.C.

Tech (6-8, 2-3 ACC) claimed the No. 2 doubles as Patrick Daciek and Lucas Oliveira teamed up for an 8-2 win against Fred Saba and Jason Tahir. The Blue Devils (14-3, 3-1 ACC) took the point though after winning the No. 1 and No. 3 matches.

The Blue Devils entered singles with a 1-0 lead and followed that up with wins in the No. 5, No. 4 and No. 1 singles matches to secure the team win. In the No. 5, Tech’s Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci fell to Jason Tahir, 6-2, 6-0 while Mauricio Antun dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to Duke’s Fred Saba in the No. 4.

The No. 1 singles was the deciding match as the 3rd-ranked Henrique Cunha defeated No. 84 Luka Somen, 6-1, 6-0.

Tech will return home to Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center next weekend to host a pair of ACC matches beginning with NC State on Friday, March 30 at 2:30 p.m.
