BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 56 Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will travel to Kentucky to face No. 40 Louisville on Saturday, March 17 beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Tech (6-5) faced No. 1 Southern California in the Hokies’ last outing. The Trojans claimed the 7-0 win. Virginia Tech’s No. 89 Lucas Oliveira battled USC’s No. 38 Yannick Hanfmann in the No. 2 singles, as they went to three sets. Hanfmann took the first 6-3 while Oliveira rallied for the 6-3 win in the second set. The USC player edged Oliveira in the tiebreaker 10-8.
The Hokies’ No. 84 Luka Somen, Mauricio Antun and Trpimir Kujundzic all have 6-4 records in singles in dual play. Patrick Daciek, Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci and Oliveira are 5-5. In doubles, the duo of Somen and Tocci are ranked No. 47 in the latest ITA standings.
Louisville (9-8) fell to No. 35 Oklahoma the last time out. Albert Wagner picked up the point for the Cards with a win in the No. 3 singles. Wagner leads Louisville with a 10-4 record in duals. Micahel Lippens is 9-4 and Sebastian Stiefelmeyer is 8-5. The tandem of Andrew Carter and Wagner are ranked No. 55 in the ITA.
Tech will remain on the road for a pair of ACC matches next weekend, traveling to North Carolina to face No. 32 UNC and No. 6 Duke.
