LOS ANGELES – The No. 50 ranked Hokies fell to No. 1 Southern California, 7-0 in men’s tennis action on Friday at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.
The Trojans (15-0), who have won the past three NCAA titles, took the early 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point. Tech’s No. 44 duo of Luka Somen and Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci battled in the No. 1, but No. 49 Daniel Nguyen and Roberto Quiroz held off the Hokies for the 8-5 win.
USC continued their solid play in to singles, winning the No. 5, 3 and 6 matches to secure the team win.
In the No. 2 singles, Tech’s No. 77 Lucas Oliveira took No. 38 ranked Yannick Hanfmann to three sets. After falling 6-3 in the first set, Oliveira rallied to take the second set, 6-3. Hanfmann outlasted Oliveira for the 1-0 (10-8) win in the third.
The Hokies will be back in action on Saturday, March 17 at Louisville.
