BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 37 Virginia Tech men’s tennis team returns home to host a pair of ACC matches beginning with No. 39 Maryland on Friday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. Tech will host in-state rival No. 3 Virginia on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

The Hokies (3-2, 1-0 ACC) defeated Boston College 6-1 the last time out. After dropping the doubles point, Tech came back strong to win all six singles in straight sets. No. 30 Luka Somen, No. 90 Lucas Oliveira, Patrick Daciek, Mauricio Antun, Corrado Degl’Incerti Tocci and Trpimir Kujundzic all claimed wins for the Hokies. Oliveira and Hunter Koontz teamed up for the Hokies’ lone win in doubles.

Somen has posted a 4-1 record in the No. 1 singles while freshman Antun is 4-1 in the No. 4. Oliveira and Daciek have 3-2 records in the No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Tocci is 2-3 in the No. 4 and Kujundzic has a 2-2 mark in the No. 6.

The Terrapins (3-4, 0-1 ACC) secured a 5-2 win over No. 38 VCU the last time out after winning 2-of-3 doubles and four singles matches. The Terps secured points with wins from Maros Horny (No. 1), Vlad Stefan (No. 2), Tommy Laine (No. 5) and Jesse Kiuru (No. 6).

Maryland’s duo of Horny and John Collins are ranked No. 21 in the latest ITA doubles rankings. In singles, the Terps’ Kiuru has a 4-1 record, Stefan is 3-2 and Horny is 3-4.

Virginia (7-1, 1-0 ACC) is ranked No. 3 in the ITA rankings and is coming off a trip to the ITA National Team Indoors where they fell to No. 2 Ohio State, 4-1 in the semifinals. The Cavaliers scored a point in the No. 1 singles with a win from No. 10 Jarmere Jenkins.

The ‘Hoos are paced by a trio of players in the national rankings. Mitchell Frank is No. 1, Jenkins at No. 10 and Justin Shane is No. 37. UVa also has three doubles teams ranked. Drew Courtney and Jenkins (No. 12), Philippe Oudshoorn and Shane (No. 19) and Alex Domijan and Steven Rooda (No. 42).

Following the weekend matches, the Hokies will remain at home to host Minnesota on Saturday, March 3 followed by a Sunday doubleheader on March 4 against St. Bonaventure and James Madison.
