CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Luka Somen and Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci advanced for the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team on Sunday at the ITA Atlantic Regionals in Charlottesville, Va.
No. 25 Somen secured a 6-2, 7-6 singles win over Max Wennakoski of VCU. The Tech player moves on to face No. 65 Julen Uriguen of UVA on Monday in the quarterfinals.
In doubles, No. 27 Somen and Tocci paired up for two wins on the third day of competition. The Hokies’ duo defeated JMU’s Ryan Pool and Florent Sentenac, 8-0.
Somen and Tocci followed that up with an 8-5 win over UVA’s No. 7 seeded pair Philippe Oudshoorn and Steven Rooda in the second doubles match of the day. Rooda is ranked No. 12 in the ITA preseason standings with teammate Drew Courtney. In Monday’s semifinals, Somen and Tocci are slated to face Courtney and Uriguen.
Play begins at 10 a.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center with the singles quarterfinals. The singles semifinals and doubles semifinals will follow.
