BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is set for the ITA Atlantic Regional Oct. 20-25 at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va. The qualifying draw will be held Thursday, with the main draw starting on Friday.
Joining the Hokies and host team Virginia are players from Delaware, Duquesne, George Mason, George Washington, Georgetown, James Madison, Lafayette, Liberty, Longwood, Maryland, Morgan State, Navy, Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Radford, Richmond, St. Joseph’s, Temple, UMBC, VCU and William & Mary.
In the qualifying draw is Jonathan Pine who has a first round bye, before opening play in the second round against the winner of Blake Daniel from Navy versus Temple’s Mansu Gishkaev. Pine is the number one seed in the qualifying draw and will move into the main draw if another player withdraws.
The rest of the Hokies will get started on Friday. No. 25 Luka Somen, Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci and Lucas Oliveira all have byes in the opening round.
Tech’s Trpimir Kujundzic is set to face Delaware’s Adam Lawton in the first round while Marko Lovrinovic squares off against Kamal Patel of UMBC. Zachary Pine will play GWU’s Viktor Svensson and Mauricio Antun will play Shea Thomas of Liberty. Rounding out the singles matches for the Hokies is Hunter Koontz against William & Mary’s Robert Pietrucha.
In doubles, Tech’s No. 27 Somen and Tocci have a first round bye. Zach Pine and Kujundzic will pair up to face Richmond’s Ethan Dunbar and Aaron Wicker.
Oliveira and Koontz will team up to play Slim Tuus and Tristan Stayt of Liberty while Lovrinovic and Antun are set to square off against Penn State’s tandem of Jason Lee and Tomas Hanzlik.
