CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team secured seven singles wins during the final day of competition at the UVa Fall Classic on Sunday in Charlottesville, Va.
In the black draw fifth place bracket, Trpimir Kujundzic defeated host-team UVa’s Dino Dell’Orto in his first match of the day, 6-0, 6-0. Kujundzic followed that up with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Ryan Pool of James Madison. With the win Kujundzic claimed a fifth place finish in the flight.
Jonathan Pine secured two wins in the blue draw, defeating a pair of Morgan State players. In the first match, Jon Pine defeated Duwane Thomas, 6-2, 6-1. He downed Dmitry Chekhlatyy in the consolation bracket finals, 6-1, 6-1.
Tech’s Zachary Pine defeated William & Mary’s Ilja Orre in a hard fought three set match, winning the opening set, 6-3. Orre came back in the second set for a 6-4 win, but Zach Pine secured the match with a 10-5 win in the final set.
The Hokies will be back on the court, returning to Charlottesville, Oct. 20-23, for the ITA Regional Championships.
