CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Marko Lovrinovic and Trpimir Kujundzic claimed a second place finish for the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team in the white draw doubles on the first day of competition at the UVa Fall Classic in Charlottesville, Va. Due to rain the tournament schedule was adjusted to play all three rounds of doubles on the first day.
The Tech pair opened up with an 8-2 win over Ben Hoogland and John Banks of William & Mary. In the second round Lovrinovic and Kujundzic defeated Penn State’s Thomas Hanzlik and Jason Lee, 8-6.
In the finals, the Hokie duo fell to host team UVa’s pair Phillippe Oudshoorn and Steven Rooda, 8-5. While the Cavalier pair is not ranked together in the ITA doubles standings, Rooda is ranked 12th in the preseason with teammate Drew Courtney.
Zachary Pine and Jonathan Pine teamed up for the Hokies in the white draw, falling in the first round to East Tennessee State’s Jeremy Bonnevalle and Roger Ordeig in a tight 9-8(5) battle. In the second round, the Pine brothers dropped an 8-6 decision to Christian Romanzini and Ben Marks of Norfolk State.
