Tech to compete at ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – Virginia Tech men’s tennis players, Luka Somen and Corrado Degl’Incerti Tocci will compete in the 2011 ITA Men’s All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., beginning Thursday, Oct. 6. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of University of Tulsa.

The Tech duo is currently No. 27 in the preseason ITA rankings and will compete in the main draw doubles. Somen will also compete in the main draw singles beginning on Thursday and enters the event ranked No. 25 in the preseason.

In doubles, the Hokies’ pair will face Pepperdine’s No. 11 duo of Sebastian Fanselow and Jenson Turner in the opening round.

Somen will square off against No. 24 Sadio Doumbia of Georgia in the first round of singles.

Top collegiate players from around the country are competing in the nine-day event, which began on Saturday with pre-qualifying and continued into the qualifying rounds, Monday-Wednesday. Sixty-four players will compete in singles while 32 doubles teams are featured in the main draw.

Thursday’s schedule will include the first two rounds of singles and the first round of doubles.
