CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team wrapped up the second day of competition at the UVA Ranked+1 Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
At the UVA event, No. 25 Luka Somen claimed a win in his first singles match of the day, defeating Philippe Oudshoorn of UVA, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. In his second match of the day, Somen battled with No. 71 Roy Kalmonovich of Illinois, going to three sets. Somen took the opening set, 3-6, but fell in the next two with scores of 6-1, 6-1. He will face ETSU’s No. 99 Jesus Bandres in the third place match of the orange draw on Sunday.
Somen and partern Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci fell in the semifinals of the white draw doubles to UVA’s Justin Shane and Philippe Oudshoorn, 8-5. The No. 27 Tech duo will square off with Virginia’s No. 12 Drew Courtney and Steven Rooda in the third place match on Sunday.
The event concludes on Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center.
