GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Mauricio Antun and sophomore Kevin Castellow advanced to the finals of their respective men’s tennis flights on Saturday at the UNCG Invite in Greensboro, N.C.
Antun defeated UNCG’s Orcun Seyrek in a three set match in the Flight A1 singles. The Hokies’ player won the first set, 6-3 before falling 6-3 in the second. Antun responded in the final set with a 6-3 win. He will face UNC Asheville’s Adrien Langeard on Sunday in the finals.
In the Flight A3 singles, Castellow secured a straight set, 6-3, 6-2 win over John Schubel of UNCA. On Sunday Castellow will face Shubel’s teammate, Tom Rees in the finals.
VT’s Trpimir Kujundzic picked up a pair of wins in the consolation bracket of the A1 singles, defeating two Liberty players. In the first match, Kujundzic defeated Shae Thomas, 6-4, 6-2 and followed that up with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Siim Tuus.
Antun and Kujundzic teamed up for a win in doubles in the A flight. The VT duo downed Liberty’s tandem of Thomas and Giancarlo Lemmi, 8-3.
Tech will conclude the UNCG Invite on Sunday, Sept. 11 beginning at 9 a.m.
