Tech claims wins on first day of UNCG Invite
Men's tennis advances in singles on day one

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three Virginia Tech men’s tennis players picked up wins in singles during the first day of the UNCG Invite to advance to the semifinals of their respective flights at the UNCG Tennis Courts in Greensboro, N.C.

In Flight A1 Singles, VT freshman Mauricio Antun secured a pair of wins to advance. He defeated N.C. Central’s Jack Waissen in straight sets with scores of 6-1, 6-3 in the opening round. Antun followed that up with a three set match against Jordan Kaufman of Elon. The pair went back and forth with Kaufman winning the first set, 6-4. Antun came back to claim the second, 6-1 and was up in the third set, 3-1 before Kaufman retired.

VT’s Zachary Pine had a bye in the opening round of the Flight A2 singles, but defeated Liberty’s Jorge Azuero, 6-1, 6-2 in the second round to advance.

The Flight A3 singles had Kevin Castellow with a bye in the first round. In the second round, Castellow defeated Liberty’s Dillon Segur in three sets with scores of 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5).

Saturday’s matches will begin at 9 a.m. with doubles. Singles matches will follow in the afternoon and are set to begin at 3 p.m.

Langeard/Tom Rees (Asheville) def. Pine/Castellow (VT) 8-2

Antun/Kujundzic had a bye in the first round and will begin doubles play on Saturday.
