SKILLMAN, N.J. – Virginia Tech men's tennis player, Luka Somen is ranked No. 25 in singles while he, along with doubles partner, Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci are ranked No. 27 in the 2011-12 preseason rankings as released on Friday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Somen won 22 singles matches during the 2010-11 season, including two wins against top-30 players. He won All-ACC recognition after going 6-5 in league play in the No. 1 and earned an At-Large bid to the NCAA Singles Championship. Somen was ranked No. 54 in the final ITA poll last season and No. 6 in the Atlantic Region.
In addition, Somen was selected to compete at the 2011 ITA Men’s All-American Single Championships in the main draw. The event will be held in Tulsa, Okla. and hosted by the University of Tulsa, Oct. 3-9.
Somen and Tocci were 12-10 last season in doubles and claimed a pair of wins over top-30 opponents, playing primarily in the No. 2 doubles. The duo finished last season ranked No. 77 in the nation and No. 7 in the Atlantic Region.
The pair has been selected to the qualifying draw in the doubles competition at the Men’s All-American Championships.
