GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three members of the Virginia Tech men’s tennis team were selected to the 2011 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Tennis Team as announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
Pedro Graber (r-Sr., Santiago, Chile), Lucas Oliveira (So., Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Luka Somen (Jr., Karlovac, Croatia) were all named to the elite academic squad. Graber was named to the the team for the fourth time, Somen is a three-time selection and Oliveira is a first-time honoree.
On the court, Somen, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship, posted 17 singles victories and was ranked No. 54 nationally. Graber had 20 singles victories and was named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-American District III At-large University Division team. Oliveira also recorded 20 singles victories and was 5-3 in ACC contests.
Duke led all ACC schools with four All-Academic team selections. Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech each placed three student-athletes on the squad.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
