BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team is ranked No. 35 in the final rankings released today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Tech concluded the year with a 15-12 record after making the program’s fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Hokies were ranked second in the Atlantic Region behind national runner-up Virginia.
Several members of the team also earned national and regional recognition in the final singles and doubles rankings. Luka Somen (Jr., Karlovac, Croatia) is ranked No. 54 nationally in singles and sixth in the Atlantic Region. A 2011 All-ACC selection, Somen defeated two top 30 players this season en-route to winning 22 singles matches. Somen was the 2009 ACC Freshman of the Year.
Pedro Graber (r-Sr., Santiago, Chile) earned a No. 13 region ranking after winning 20 singles matches this season including clinching victories against Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament and Vanderbilt in the NCAA First Round.
In doubles, Graber and Will Beck (Sr., Potomac, Md.) are ranked No. 55 nationally and fourth in the Atlantic Region, while Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci (Jr., Reggio Emilia, Italy) and Somen are No. 77 in the nation and No. 7 in the region.
