GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech junior Luka Somen has been selected for the second consecutive year to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.
Somen (Karlovac, Croatia), ranked No. 58 nationally in singles, was second on the team with 20 singles victories while playing the No. 1 position. He was the 2009 ACC Freshman of the Year and defeated two top-30 players this season. Somen also helped the Tech cause with 17 doubles victories.
Tech (14-11) is ranked No. 37 in this week’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll and the Hokies are in line for a fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. NCAA team bids will be released on Tuesday, May 3, by 6 p.m., on NCAA.com. The individual singles and doubles participants will be announced on NCAA.com by 6 p.m., on Wed., May 4.
